Your June 15th checklist for every 2026 athlete & parent! On June 15th, college coaches can finally engage in serious conversations about recruiting with you. This communication can include phone calls, emails, FaceTime, Zoom, Instagram DM, texting, etc.
The month leading up to June 15:
- Set Up Voicemail: Ensure your voicemail is set up and delete old messages so that you have enough space in your voicemail.
- Organize Your School List: Have at least a dozen schools on your list. Research each school’s academic offerings and field hockey program. Read our full list of ‘Tips to research schools & programs’
- Prepare for Questions: College coaches will ask about your academic and athletic background, your interests, and what you’re looking for in a program. Write out what you like most about each school and its hockey program. Be ready to talk about yourself as a person and player.
- Role-Play Phone Calls: Practice phone calls with a teammate, sibling, or parent to feel more comfortable and confident before speaking with college coaches.
- Draft Questions for Coaches: Write out questions you have for each college coach. Check out our ‘List of Best Questions to ask a college coach’
- Email Schools: Send emails to all the schools on your list with your latest video and academic information. Let them know you’d love to connect during the week of June 15th.
- For the schools you are doing clinics with on June 16th, make sure to mention you will be doing a clinic with them at the Sophomore Select LineUP.
- Complete Questionnaires: Fill out a questionnaire for each school on your list. If you’ve already done so but have new information, update it.
- Consult Your Club Coaches: Review your school list with your club coaches. Get their input to ensure the programs are a good fit and seek their help to expand your list if needed.

The week of June 15th:
- Don’t Panic if You Don’t Hear from Coaches Immediately: If a coach doesn’t contact you on June 15th, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not interested. They may need more information, want to see you play this summer, or plan to reach out the following week.
- Stay Connected: Keep your phone and email accessible throughout the day and week. Respond to emails and calls as quickly as possible, ideally within 24 hours.
- Pre-Event Communication: a few days before the June 16th Sophomore Select event, email the coaches you’re doing clinics with. Include your video, academic info, the time of your clinic, and express your interest in their school. Let them know you’ll follow up after the clinic.
- You can send this off of the same email you sent last week (from #6 above). If you already sent them your video and academic info, you can just send a quick follow up that you are excited to work with them in a few days.
- Post-Event Follow-Up: After the June 16th event, email the coaches you’re still interested in. Mention what you enjoyed about their clinic and suggest setting up a call.
- Flexible Schedule: Keep your schedule open for potential calls. Inform your boss or coach in advance that you might need to take important calls from college coaches.
- If you miss a call, promptly text and email the coach apologizing for the missed call and propose a few times for a callback.
- Respond to All Coaches: Even if a coach from a school you’re not interested in contacts you, always respond. Keep an open mind, but if you’re certain a school isn’t a fit, politely let the coach know.
- Prepare for Calls: For scheduled calls, research the school and program. Know why you’re interested and have at least two questions ready to ask. Be prepared for unscheduled calls too.
- Utilize Email: You can now email coaches with questions, and they can respond directly.
- Verbal Offers: Be aware that verbal offers may be made. If a coach offers you a verbal offer the week of June 15th, you can tell them that you need to talk to your parents before you make any commitment and that you will call them back that week.
- Focus on Your Journey: Don’t compare your communication timeline with your teammates. Everyone’s recruiting journey is unique. Stay positive and patient, even if you don’t receive calls or emails on June 15th.
June 15-July 31st & August 1st:
Off-campus, in-person recruiting conversations aren’t allowed until August 1st, even if you have begun digital communications (calls, texting, FaceTime, etc.) with coaches since June 15th.
- June 15 – July 31:
- During clinics, camps, or showcases, avoid asking college coaches questions directly related to recruiting. These conversations must wait until August 1st.
- Coaches are happy to answer general questions about field hockey, their team, the school, their coaching style, etc. Don’t hesitate to ask!
- While in-person conversations must wait until August 1st, maintain frequent communication via email or text/FaceTime if they have provided their number.
- Attend the July 20th New England Mega Event- work direction with up to 7 college coaches of your choice.
- August 1st Onwards:
- You can schedule official and unofficial visits starting August 1st. During these visits, you can have recruiting conversations on campus with the college coach.
- Stay proactive and keep the lines of communication open to make the most of this recruiting period!
